Every Man For Themselves

Pros

The work environment is clean.

Cons

It was very frustrating to work at this company. I had no onboarding but quickly realized I was the only one. The whole place seems to operate with an "every man for themself" mentality. My desk didn't have so much as a pen on it my first day. I was lucky to work in department with friendly people who took my under their wing. Everything was a struggle: trying to understand the companys structure (they have no intranet, or org chart) ,trying to navigate benefits (they had policies in ADP that had no been updated since the late 80's) simply trying to understand my role was a challenge without any best practices in place. I often felt I spent more time trying to figure out how to get something done than I spent actually doing the task at hand.

We are sorry that you had such a negative experience at AstroNova. Your on-boarding experience must have been from some time ago. It certainly does not reflect the current state of our on-boarding and employee services. We have a very active intranet that has been used for several years now to post our monthly newsletters and other relevant company information. All policies and benefits information is updated and easily navigable through the latest version of our ADP system. The global organizational chart with pictures and contact information for every employee is also available to everyone via ADP. We certainly have much more work to do to improve our employee services and engagement, but we are proud of how far we have progressed in the past several years, and it reflects in the majority of feedback that we receive.

Pros

Middle management is great, with open door policy. Benefits are ok but could be better. Nice workers but a lot of work office politics

Cons

Not diverse!!! No women in management roles. Upper management running a good company into the ground. A true lack of communication good working people.

AstroNova, Inc. is an equal opportunity / affirmative action employer and is committed to diversity in the workplace. So, it is very unfortunate when we come across posts like this that do not truly represent our core values and who we are as an organization. Historically, it has been difficult to recruit women in the manufacturing sector. A recent study by Deloitte indicated that only 28% of women considering a change in industry would consider the manufacturing sector as a choice for them. Another recent study by the Manufacturing Institute determined that while women represent nearly half (46.6%) of the total U.S. labor force, they only comprise a quarter (24.8%) of the durable goods manufacturing workforce. At AstroNova, we are very proud that women make up 30.5% of our U.S. workforce and 30% of our global workforce – and 10% of those women are in management positions. We are making strides every day to hire, develop and promote women in the workforce. Our recent partnership with Real Jobs Rhode Island accepted 4 candidates for a “new and emerging leader” development program and 3 of those four candidates are women. If you are looking for a manufacturing company that is truly focused on diversity in the workplace and creating opportunities for women, then come to AstroNova.

Pros

For an entry level technician just out of high school or an associates program this job isn't bad. The work is fairly interesting, the pay is decent if you're young and just entering the working world and they're fairly flexible with needing time off.

Cons

If you enter as an entry level technician then expect to get some experience and leave. Engineering here will disregard any in house talent despite managers telling prospective employees that they like to "promote from within". You will get a 2% raise per year regardless of the quality of work you do, this causes employees to become apathetic and do the bare minimum. Managers tend to overlook their employees behavior and let people get away with too much. Company continues to support obsolete products for far too long there by shipping products that will ultimately return for repair and not be able to be repaired or be repaired just enough that the customer will receive it and have to send it back within a month or two.
