Pros

the ONly enjoyment I get from here are seeing the customers dogs and the 25% off employee discount.

Cons

Extremely overworked. Extremely stressful. Extremely underpaid for the amount of work we do. The only reason i’m getting hours right now is because everyone else quit. Still have the same pay as when I started a year ago ($9.50). I have a lot more work as when I started a year ago. Having only 2-3 people close a night is pretty regular even though it takes at least 4-6 people to get everything done by the time they want us out of there. If you’re on the register for the night be prepared to be the only person actually on the floor because the other person is on break. Customers shoplift in masses because they know they can get away with it and there’s “nothing we can do about it”. The only people who get a little praise for what they do is the freight team. Cut hours for no reason only to say we have to get more things done. Nonetheless this company is depressing.

Adopting a bad culture

Pros

Company is growing with decent sales. There are still some great people.

Cons

Company used to have a great culture where you felt like the leadership cared about everyone, but that seems to be changing. They have brought in some key people with department store backgrounds who have brought with them the culture of stabbing others in the back, favoritism, and a general uneasy feeling that you could walk in one day and find yourself out of a job.

Pros

Busy and fast paced, the day goes by incredibly quickly You learn a lot of different skills quick because there is so (too) much to do If you work with good people, the day can be enjoyable And as always, it is nice to work around so many beautiful home decor items.

Cons

This company does not invest nearly enough into it's employees. There are far too few working in a single location at once to get the amount of work that corporate expects accomplished. Please actually think about that. If you work here you will never get enough work done to satisfy anyone. I love hard work, and feeling satisfied with your efforts at the end of the day is so important. You will not get that here. Communication is very poor. I would strongly suggest staying part-time at At Home if you are even considering it, and I would never recommend working full-time. If you're looking for 20 or less hours a week, and a place to go to work hard and not think too much, this is the place. If you're there longer than that during the week, a bulk of the work and responsibility is put on your shoulders, and depending on your team, you may or may not have anyone you can rely on to help you with that. And because there are never enough people to get things done, customers are rarely satisfied with the store, the quality of the merchandising, and the quality of the service they get. Frustrated people deal with equally frustrated people all day, and it could be so much better than that.
