Pros

Many bonus-able tasks that you can take or or come up with in order help supplement your salary. Peers are wonderful and a great resource. Large number of clinics and staff helps ensure business. Great place to start your career, but not the greatest for long term growth. If you wish to have a career as a secondary school AT, this is a great place to work.

Cons

Numbers, numbers, numbers...not a ton of value placed on being great at your job. It's all about referrals and contacts. Pay is sub-par and you are often being hounded to pick up extra events during the affiliate year in your spare time. Summer hours are in short supply so you get to use PTO to cover that, making it hard to use it for it's actual intended purpose. In the clinical setting the Athletic Trainer = rehab aide and you often spend time doing the same things that high school or college students hired without degrees do. Barely any professional growth opportunities, hidden behind "bonus-able" tasks that are still subject to individual/management review at the end of the year. ATs know that we will be working long days and often less than ideal hours, however Athletico only pays out for 75 hours bi-weekly even though you may be putting in 80+.

Pros

Rewarding job, cool people patients and co workers, real world experience, most clinics you work with patients 70% of the time if you really know your stuff (especially south loop location). Pay in the city is higher than in the suburbs, great for PT school since you get paid and get hours at the same time

Cons

Sometimes you will stand/sit for long periods of time. You'll feel like you do more work than the PTs, can get crazy busy and every PT will be needing your help
