Pros

Having come to Atlas Air as as new assistant in 1998, I had grown into a top level management position throughout a 12 year span.

Cons

Despite years of "consistently exceeds" performance reviews - you will have no protection once the company has decided your salary is too much and thus you need to go. Sad but very true at this company. Upper Management is funny; though you feel you have reached a milestone in life, you have to watch out for the evil doers looking to stab you in the back...and there is plenty of that at this very top heavy management company.

Pros

Eventually the heavy cargo planes will be remotely operated (drones) because Atlas/Polar/Southern can not attract pilots.

Cons

Hostile work environment. Would rather park airplanes than pay for pilots. In 2019 we sat the 777's rotating them between "heavy maintenance" and storage for four months. A 777 circumnavigates the globe every 30 hours (if you have crew) usually in three legs. Each leg represents 250K in PROFIT X 3 every 30 hrs and we parked three airplanes for four months.

Pros

It is possible to make over $300k/year as a pilot. The company is very loyal and very supportive to individual pilots. The flight operations management center is excellent and the flight training center is outstanding.

Cons

The company is terrible at negotiating, in good faith, with employee groups. It has paid fines for the "tricks" it pulls. The last pilot contract terminated in January 2006... negotiations started in 2004. By July 31, 2017 there is still no new contract.
