Not your typical software development shop!

Pros

Continuous improvement is a fundamental concept on this team. Atlas actively encourages engineers to continue to learn and hone their craft. Weekly book clubs encourage team members to stay current on modern development tools as well as design patterns and principles. Peers support each other. Pair programming is utilized daily so that team members can collaborate and learn together. As a result, higher quality code is produced resulting in a much more maintainable product. Agile development (Scrum and XP) practices are used effectively. This results in higher team morale and higher quality work. Product management effectively drives priorities so developers know what to work on next.

Cons

There is still some thrashing due to the rapidly changing priorities being generated by the market as well as the accelerated amount of growth the company is undergoing.

Work with High Performers; Sharpen Your Skills

Pros

Atlas has preserved many of the great attributes of a startup, without the stress of 100-hour weeks and job security questions. The work environment is energetic and fulfilling. Teammates expect excellence from each other and go out of their way to support each other in improving individual skills. The company culture and leadership values transparency, and ideas for process improvement are heard and considered. No unchangeable and unjustified bureaucracy. Your ideas matter, regardless of your job title.

Cons

Growing the company still involves some thrashing in strategy. Though leadership is focused on results and not time cards, the high expectations make it hard (for me, at least) to stop at a 40-hour week.

Thank you so much for your review! Indeed, we have very high expectations of our employees and coworkers do of each other as well. It can be stressful at times. But the good news is that we're still small enough for each employee to take a lot of ownership and make a big difference. Those who are specifically seeking a challenging, fast paced, competitive, transparent (sometimes to a fault), high risk but high reward culture will thrive here.
