Pros

You’re not held accountable to providing impact once you get tenured, so you can coast after earning your stripes.

Cons

- Most managers are not trained enough to deal with interpersonal conflict, communicate effectively, or foster inclusivity - Senior leadership selectively listens to feedback and only if it follows their personal beliefs - Politicking is necessary to make decisions - Founderitis is real and senior leadership doesn’t communicate as though they are working with humans

Cons

My time working at Atlassian was a complete disappointment, and I cannot emphasize enough how unsatisfied I am with the overall experience. From the company culture to the management practices, Atlassian fell far short of the expectations I had for a reputed tech organization. First and foremost, the company culture at Atlassian was a major letdown. Despite their claims of fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, it quickly became apparent that it was just empty rhetoric. The atmosphere was one of cutthroat competition, with little regard for teamwork or support. Instead of promoting a sense of camaraderie, I found myself surrounded by individuals solely focused on their own success, leading to a toxic work environment. The management at Atlassian was equally disheartening. The leadership team lacked clear direction and failed to provide proper guidance to their employees. Decisions were often made impulsively, without considering the impact on the overall company or the well-being of the employees. There was a distinct lack of transparency, with crucial information being withheld, further contributing to a sense of disarray and confusion. Lastly, the overall communication within the organization was abysmal. Important information was often shared haphazardly, if at all, leading to confusion and inefficiency. The lack of effective communication channels hindered collaboration and hindered the ability to work effectively as a team. In conclusion, my experience at Atlassian was incredibly disappointing. The toxic company culture, ineffective management, lack of work-life balance, limited growth opportunities, subpar compensation, and poor communication all contributed to a negative and disheartening work environment. I would strongly caution anyone considering a career at Atlassian to reevaluate their options and seek a company that genuinely values its employees' well-being and growth.
