Pros

Competitive compensation and benefits Lots of talented people Extra curricular opportunities (sports leagues, Amazon conferences, volunteering events, Friday happy hours, and more)

Cons

It’s hard to develop new things in big organizations. Bureaucratic hierarchies moves slowly, and entrenched interests shy away from risk. In the most dysfunctional organizations, signaling that work is being done becomes a better strategy for career advancement than actually doing work (if this describes your company, you should quit now). These are not my words, but words from a famous Silicon Valley investor and it perfectly sums up what’s mostly wrong at Audible. The tech stack is archaic Java/JSP If you don’t have seniority, your ideas don’t matter Everything moves slow. Like REEEEAAALLLL slow. Interaction with different teams is painful Code reviews are a pain. Everyone is scared to push code. So, code reviews for a single file and a few line changes can take weeks.

Pros

- Free food, good food - Skip commute to NYC and drive to work - Business growing organically - Easy to hide and blame a.k.a. if you excel at politics, this is a great place

Cons

- the company's 5 new principles are contradictory to what the Tech team is in real life - nepotism, lying, weak backbone, personal politics, empire building, using the position of power to mute others, are the hallmark of Product and Tech Leaders. And it is getting worse -if you are a hardcore SDE or technical person, stay away -the most black-box tech organisation I have seen in my 13 years. Decisions are made hush-hush, even org changes are done quietly, the VPs prefer to stay in hiding so as to avoid any uncomfortable questions from SDEs, anyone who challenges the VPs or has the courage to ask difficult questions can quickly get into bad books and taught a lesson during performance review

Pros

Free food, flexible work hours, lots of nice people. Free parking. Public transit commute is reimbursed. You get the Amazon name on your resume.

Cons

Bad managers. Bad upper management. There is a lack of trust between employees and all levels of management. All-team meetings are hostile. Not transparent. Managers are not technically inclined. There's a clear segregation between employees and their managers. I didn't realize how bad this was until leaving to a different company. Company is slow to innovate. Claims to be agile, but not agile at all. Product managers are out to make a name for themselves so random bad features are made that take a very long time to complete. Promotions are purely political. I've seen promotions to toxic employees because they are also very vocal with management. The goal to getting promoted is befriending as many managers as you can. Force a promotion by saying you'll leave if you don't get one.
