Pros

Competitive compensation and benefits Lots of talented people Extra curricular opportunities (sports leagues, Amazon conferences, volunteering events, Friday happy hours, and more)

Cons

It’s hard to develop new things in big organizations. Bureaucratic hierarchies moves slowly, and entrenched interests shy away from risk. In the most dysfunctional organizations, signaling that work is being done becomes a better strategy for career advancement than actually doing work (if this describes your company, you should quit now). These are not my words, but words from a famous Silicon Valley investor and it perfectly sums up what’s mostly wrong at Audible. The tech stack is archaic Java/JSP If you don’t have seniority, your ideas don’t matter Everything moves slow. Like REEEEAAALLLL slow. Interaction with different teams is painful Code reviews are a pain. Everyone is scared to push code. So, code reviews for a single file and a few line changes can take weeks.

Pros

Amazon stock, working with Amazon partners, and other things that Audible hasn't managed to change when it comes to being an Amazon company.

Cons

Don't know where to begin but the rating trends show you everything you need to know. The planted reviews from HR can't hide the fact that Audible is a sinking ship and you should try and avoid this place at all costs. Only thing keeping people there is Amazon stock that makes the golden chains fasten tighter. - If you're hired into a position, you'll stay there, which is great if you're a professional manager (50% of Audible) who wants to coast and ride Amazon's coattails to retirement. It's terrible if you're looking to grow your career - Culture of fear incentivizes people to play it safe and make others fail. This behavior is modeled by management and leadership that all seek Don's favor. No one thinks about the customer or innovation. Never worked at a place where there's so much backstabbing and lack of trust among leaders which trickles down. - Things that would take months at another company takes years at Audible. The technology stack is so old and you'll work on something that will get killed because leadership has no idea what it wants to be. No one on the executive team has ever done this before successfully and it shows often.

Pros

Free lunch + great culture. Strong engineers get to shine. I've never been told my opinion doesn't matter and I'm never afraid to speak up. Great opportunity for growth. Work/Life balance.

Cons

Mix of talented and not-so-talented engineers (not referring to new vs experienced). Some teams are more fun and free than other teams.
