      Great Place to be a Psychiatry Resident

      Pros

      Psych residency leadership is very accommodating to research, pursuing professional degrees (e.g. MBA), and seems to at least try to get resident input to improve the program. Not perfect, but a lot better than a lot of other programs out there.

      Cons

      Psychiatry has low respect in the hospital in general - not exactly the residency's fault - but the department is definitely on the lower end of the hospital's priority list and it definitely shows whether it's the "historic" (read: decrepit) building the residents and faculty work out of or the fact that its inpatient unit was axed because it wasn't "bringing in enough money".

      Pros

      The relationships that you establish with coworkers.

      Cons

      Low moral, bad management, not being able to use your pto, more work than employees, unreasonable tasks, put in horrible situations constantly, stressful, long hours without adequate pay, resources, nor appreciation. Not even to mention the way you are treated and talked to. It's not worth the sacrifice, your sanity, or health. You are not valued at all here.
