Pros

Working in the shop as a Rebuilder was awesome. Worked mostly alone, had good hourly rate 14/hr and worked from 8-3:30 pm. Plently of breaks long lunch and occasionally got sent to fix a customer machine. Sometimes that machine would be four hours one direction away and driving back another 4 hours completed my 8 hour day while getting paid the entire time and stopping off at a cool place to eat would sum up my day. sometimes we would have sold a lot of machines and it would be my job to restore them as fast as possible. I didn't have a problem meeting deadlines because of my mechanical aptitude. Most of the time it was slow. Some minor forklift work and at the end of the day I said hello to all of the guys on route and help them load and unload chemicals which they appreciated.

Cons

Working as a service sales representative or on route was the biggest mistake I have made in my professional career. They moved me from hourly to hourly plus commission with a considerable lower hourly rate. They outright lied to me about my income being greater than what I was getting. On Call was horrible. When I was a rebuilder it wasn't bad. my days were very consistent. When I moved over to route my days were very inconsistent. sometimes I would show up at 6:30 a.m. And get done at midnight due to a broken machines. I would have to get back up at 6:30 a.m. And do the entire thing again loading close to 1000 pounds of chemicals on my truck. Management was very iron fisted they would threaten and be extremely the demeaning if any objection was raised about why you didn't sell or perform a certain action there way.

Pros

The main reason to work here is pretty good benefits and job security. Restaurants always come and go, dishwashers always stay.

Cons

Low pay if you are in the IT industry. (but higher job security here) My manager was a micromanager. I couldn't send an email without him being copied on it which is a waste of everyone's time. He made "standard processes" for everything which is a good thing, but I spend about 4 hours a day doing "process" and 4 hours a day actually working. He was a perfectionist and if something didn't fit into his idea of how things should be done he couldn't handle it. He was a really smart guy and knew what he was doing but he did not know how to let go and actually let employees work. I had about 2 hours of meetings every day to discuss what we were working on. If I could have had those 2 hours to work everyday then a lot more would have been finished. He motivated us by threatening us with our jobs and bullied us into working unpaid overtime. When upper management was finally informed of this they corrected the issues that they had to legally fix (cover your a** because there's a potential lawsuit about to happen) and they talked to my boss about what he could not do. But by that time it was too late, everyone in the department no longer cared. We no longer cared about the quality of our work or being responsible for it. No one was happy, but everyone was stuck for one reason or another. I hope they all find the courage to find something better and realize that they can be respected at other companies. My boss is a great worker and problem solver, but he's a terrible manager and perfectionist. Working on new software cannot take as long as it did here. You have to start with something that works and add enhancements later. Everything always followed best practices for software development, but sometimes you should create something quicker in half the time then trying to perfect everything. 3 year projects do not work in any industry, we weren't building the new playstation.

Pros

If you are lucky enough to inherit a good route you make ok money if you dont mind very long hours and hard work with a lot of heavy lifting and chemical exposure (2 serious eye injuries while i was there) Some of the people you work with are ok people as well

Cons

Ill write my experience as briefly as possible. To start Ill explain what a normal day can be like, get to work at a minimum of 730am do morning paperwork and load truck with chemicals(sometimes 1000LBs or more) listen to a daily meeting.Leave for daily route and deliver all products, wash, check and fix machines as needed on route, pressure customers for payment, and possibly shut machines off if payment isnt recieved. During your day you may get service calls which take you at times 20 miles off route or more to deliver products to customers that are not yours, or to fix a machine that is broken, this can occur once or more a day(had 5 in one day once). All while your expected to finish your route. You usually get done with a full day at 5-6 pm but sometimes later if your lucky enough to not be on-call you can then go home and relax for the rest of the night. Also if your done early or have a small route that day you are made to call into the office so they can give you more work that you dont make money on, remember you work on commission. I started this position even after reading many bad reviews thinking these were only from disgruntled employees. In my first 2 months I was very happy making good money with all the over time I was putting in. after the 3rd month things changed drastically. I was put onto commission and made to believe I would be making as much if not more then I was on hourly *HUGE LIE*. I went from making about $1800 take home every 2 weeks to about $1100 take home. I also was put into the "on-call" rotation at this point which equates to working an entire week of the month on-call. while on-call you are NOT PAID except for when you get a call to go fix a machine ,BUT YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WAIT FOR A CALL AND RESPOND TO IT ASAP. this is on the weekdays after work as well as all weekend!!!!! I am currently taking to the department of labor to find out if this was illegal in NY. I was also promised annual pay of $45k a year, but later told that this company calculates all overtime and extra pay into your annual rate which is something ive never heard of before and almost no other company does(brought it up one time management got pissed). After looking over my earnings once i switched to commission I realized I wouldnt be coming close to this number and brought it up to management. This is where everything went down hill FAST. My branch manager would punch in theoretical numbers about what I would be making that was based on commission and the joke of an hourly pay we made $11/h plus his "estimation" of the hours of on-call pay I would make. When I would point out these were just theoretical numbers I would get firm but definite "discussion is over" answers from him. So I continued to work, but stopped caring about making sure to give that extra 110%. I wouldnt volunteer to do extra work or extra on-call shifts. I was seen as a problem. At this point I was targeted to make me shut up, written up for leaving a GPS in a truck overnight in thier own lot that has cameras and that no one else goes into!!!!!! Or for using sick days that I had earned and needed when I had the flu etc!!!! This continued for several months during which time I brought to my branch managers attention that I was falling short of what he "projected", and that I would not be making the $45k at this rate and after the 3rd time I brought this up he started to supplement my paycheck to make up for the commission I was not making due to having a route that was always paid as $16/hour due to it being the "scrap route" that everyone put thier undesirable stops on and it having little to no commission. He also informed me that had he hired me for this route he would have hired me at $40k since this route isnt able to earn $45k with commission if paid at the same rate everyone else is. This continued for about a month and a half until I was informed by one of the girls in the office that my manager was getting pushback about supplementing my checks and that I might be getting let go. Also about this point my girlfriend sent me a link for job postings by my company that she had run across. including my job and another one for shop help/repairman. I ended up finding out before I was let go that thier plan was to move the shop helper/repairman we already had up to my position, give him $40k a year and hire a new guy to fill his old position. This eliminated the problem of paying me $45k a year like i was promised. So the day came where they finally called me into the office and my route manager couldnt even look me in the eye.

For more than 75 years, Auto-Chlor employees have worked hard providing an exceptional level of customer service. It’s what separates us from the competition. And, being a Service and Sales Representative (SSR) does take dedication and commitment. That’s why we offer a very competitive compensation and benefits package. In addition, our managers are dedicated to doing everything in their power to support our SSRs. We are serious about safety and it is embedded in our company culture. We make sure every team member is trained and aware of safe operating procedures and practices. We follow all Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations so everyone is protected and have a full-time health and safety manager who is responsible for reviewing procedures and investigating problems. Not following well-communicated safety and company procedures could affect the team member, a co-worker, or a customer. So, there are consequences for failing to follow the DOT and company rules. The above mentioned write-up situation was the result of repeated failure to follow these rules. Our 400+ SSRs make up our front-line staff. They are professionals who are dedicated and committed to doing the best they can for their customers. We, at Auto-Chlor, encourage honest feedback and are constantly working to improve processes and procedures for our team members. Not everyone is cut out to be a Service and Sales Representative. We wish our former team members well and hope they are able to find employment more suited to their talents. In the above case, it may be a career in creative writing.
