Pros

Company's financial stability. No layoffs in 100+ years.

Cons

Poor management, especially at the regional level. Little training given other than computer modules. The company promotes from within almost exclusively which can be good but not when the management team changes to people who don't know how the state works and doesn't listen to the long-time experienced employees. New does not equate to better most of the time.

Great Place to Start in Insurance

Pros

Great training for associate underwriters. A lot of emphasis on insurance designations and the company will help cover them. Upward mobility is highly encouraged. Peers are helpful and its a solid team environment.

Cons

Once your training period is over, be prepared to hit the ground running. And no mercy if you aren't. Management at that point become Dr Jekyll like.

Pros

Company culture is good. Coworkers are friendly and you are given the ability to make decisions with minimal oversight as long as you can back up why you did something. Advancement opportunities are available, especially if you are able to move geographically. Positive work life balance.

Cons

Pay is sub-par and some of the lowest in the industry. Benefits are standard to substandard. There are no “extra” or “special” perks that can be found at other companies. 401k match is below average.
