Pros

Christmas bonus, good benefits, excellent training programs, and (generally speaking) the people are top-notch. The company is based on several Core Values, and most employees truly believe in them and abide by them. It is a good, safe company to work for...as long as you aren't in it for the money. Quite a bit of job security.

Cons

Most employees are dramatically underpaid compared to similar jobs elsewhere. The same political junk you find at big companies still rings true here. "Future managers" are chosen within the first few months of employment...if you don't make "the list," you will never advance. Unfortunately, quality of management varies dramatically between departments (since most "earned" their position through brown-nosing, rather than by merit). Several in management have no checks or balances to speak of, and a small number of them abuse this power. Tons of pointless meetings...sometimes we would literally have meetings to discuss future meetings.

Pros

Auto-Owners is a great environment to have a stable career. They do a lot of things right in regards how they conduct business. Very ethical and genuinely care for their employees. I am so lucky to have had the experience to work for such a great company. -Great employee involvement. -Benefits are very good. -Reasonable hours. -Promote from within.

Cons

The "pros" certainly outweigh the "cons" but there are somethings that could change. I encourage anyone to apply due to great leadership. The company is going in the right direction and know they have a bright future. However, even great companies can get better. Auto-Owners is very "old school" and reluctant to introduce new business methodology, even when it is a clear benefit to change. I believe in "no risk, no reward" and they are very risk adverse which makes decision making a very very long process. The environment is not exactly conducive to "top performers" and there is very little difference in how top performers, mediocre performers, and low performers are rewarded. The salaries to start off are considered to be low-fair.

Pros

Company has been around for almost 100 years with a very strong financial rating. Job security is very high, they don't do layoffs and rarely fire employees. If you work hard and are willing to move, they will give you the opportunity. They don't limit you to one specific line, so you have the ability to learn a lot. The Christmas and Incentive Bonus programs are fair and can be pretty substantial.

Cons

If you want to get promoted you to a higher position you probably will have to move (unless you are in Home Office). This is understandable as there are only so many positions in the branch office. While the benefits and bonuses are great, the pay is below average for the industry. Some complain about the business attire (shirt and tie for men), but it really isn't that bad.
