Pros

Great co-workers, easy to take time off, opportunities for learning and growth. I have an amazing boss, and there are fun challenges to work through. Conservative environment is very family friendly. Never fear for my job because the company is very fiscally conservative, and takes things slowly. Decent pay.

Cons

Compensation is middle of the road, and it seems to be based more on how long you've been there. Management is hit and miss. I currently have a rock star boss, but I know others who have struggled with their management. No flex time. No working from home. Strict dress code - business professional at all times except Halloween, when you can wear crazy costumes to work (can't figure that one out....)

Stable and Predictable; Little Room to Grow in IT; Mid-Level Management is Spotty

Pros

Job stability; opportunities to move laterally throughout varying departments; benefits and retirement plan/pension is a big plus.

Cons

Disgruntled long-term employees often end up as underqualified, vindictive middle-managers; while focused on IT growth, the company seems underinformed about how hiring/retention trends for IT staff; slow-moving internal machinery means lots of slow-moving processes.

It's OK

Pros

They are more likely to hire people with little to no experience. They also don't lay off employees, so there's a lot of job security. The Christmas and Profit Sharing bonuses are also nice. Finally, the work life balance is really good.

Cons

There isn't a lot of motivation to work very hard. Promotions tend to come after you've worked a certain amount of time. Some people do manage to move ahead based on their skill, but it's not a given. Also, the environment really pushes its conservative Christian values down your throat and there is basically no racial diversity.
