Pros

Great people and atmosphere. I really appreciated their efforts to recognize the opinions and needs of their employees through one on one meetings, surveys, town hall meetings, and a company culture refresher. There is much potential to become a great place to work but they need to get rid of the managers that kill the spirit of valuable employees and who do not align with the new core values. There is a 60 day waiting period for benefits but the benefits are decent. Flex time is a waste if you do not have children. There focus on innovation but so many processes are manually handled. Lotus notes is the worst! Technology is not important to AVB. Its more of lets have dedicated team of five people do it before we invest in the technology that can streamline the process and make it easier for everyone involved.

Cons

- I will say the experience at AVB varies directly on your department and management. - No work life balance. Getting time off is next to impossible. (AVB operates on very lean workforce) - lack of professional development and support from management - little to nothing raises once a year. I think its just the cost of living and no more or less. - the 401k match is once a year in January. - autonomous work environment; departments have overlapping initiatives and the same is true within the departments - the right doesn't know what the left is doing. - corporate has a huge disconnect from on-site employees.

Thank you for the feedback. AvalonBay strives to have a positive culture, and I agree the atmosphere and our associates are GREAT. I'm pleased to share that we are moving to Microsoft Outlook as our e-mail platform in 2016 and the 401k match is now bi-weekly. We are committed to continuous improvement and your feedback is valuable. Thanks again.

Pros

The company in itself is pretty good and pretty simple if you know what you are doing. If you have a Great manager you can easily move up, if you don't have a manager willing to go to bat for you then forget getting promoted. If you ever get the opportunity to work under Todd as a manager you will learn a great deal about the company, its systems and much more.

Cons

To get promoted it is all about who you know. Unfortunately if you do something small to make someone mad forget getting promoted ever! Once you have done anything small to upset someone then they will pretty much blacklist you forever. I worked for the company for over 3 years and wanted to move up and got over looked for promotions for people that had been with the company a significant amount of time less than me. The company if also full of gossipers, so I highly recommend that you keep things to yourself. The bonus structure with the company sucks, of you are at a stabilized community you make a measly $75 per lease and after tax it is around $50 which for all of the work you have to do for your move-ins it doesn't make it worth it. You do get bonuses for renewals, however it is still $75 per lease and it is divided among everyone in the office.

Pros

Treated like family and surrounded by true professionals. Proper work life balance. Our company's Spirit of Caring is second to none.

Cons

Not really a con for me , but very fast paced and ever changing. But I thrive on that. If you love to learn and improve then take this con and make it a pro!
