While Axios publicly emphasizes its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, my experience suggests there are significant gaps between the stated values and the actual practices. Representation at the leadership and executive levels is notably limited, with key decision-making roles predominantly held by WM and WW. This lack of diversity creates barriers for meaningful inclusion, particularly for employees from marginalized backgrounds. Within the People Team, decision-making authority also remains concentrated among the same demographics. Although the organization positions itself as socially progressive, this can sometimes create blind spots leading to an assumption that bias or inequitable treatment does not occur. However, several colleagues of color have expressed concerns about unequal recognition, reduced access to promotional opportunities, and increased scrutiny of their performance. In some cases, their contributions are met with resistance, and they appear more likely to be placed on performance improvement plans than their peers. While the company has made efforts to hire diverse talent, these employees are often concentrated in lower-level roles with limited influence or advancement potential. Overall, Axios can be a positive environment for individuals who align with the dominant culture. However, candidates from underrepresented groups should be aware that their experience may differ, and leadership’s actions may not always align with the organization’s DEI messaging. It is also important to note that Axios has experienced ongoing layoffs since August 2024, which raises concerns about job stability across the organization. Prospective employees should be aware that job security is not guaranteed, and it may be wise to carefully consider this factor when evaluating opportunities with the company. Overall, Axios can be a positive environment for some, but for candidates, particularly those from underrepresented groups or those seeking long-term stability, should enter with a full understanding of the organization’s current limitations and recent trends.

The culture was fantastic in the early days and it truly felt like a great place to work. Unfortunately, it has gone downhill and is now failing terribly. Leadership acts impulsively and always chasing the next shiny idea without a real plan, all the while abandoning projects that are still in progress and then blaming the failures on employees. Entire teams have been laid off with as little as two days’ notice. They’ll claim they’ll “do their best” to relocate people internally but when you reach out to recruiters, you’re ignored and treated as if you don’t matter. It’s a toxic environment through and through. Layoffs have become routine and unpredictable. Three major ones happened during my two years there, each without warning. Managers change frequently, and with that, any promises of promotions disappear. Even when you exceed your quarterly goals, you’ll only receive a “meets expectations” rating because leadership doesn’t want to promote anyone. The disconnect between what is promised and what actually happens has left morale very low at all times unfortunately. After the layoffs, remaining associates and senior associates were burdened with additional work, yet no promotions or raises were given. Leadership reposted other roles with expanded responsibilities but at lower salaries. Management has become toxic and heavily micro-managing doing whatever they can to undermine confidence and make employees second-guess themselves.
