Good culture, but poor policies and benefits
Pros
The company has a positive and friendly work environment, with supportive colleagues and in my case a flexible manager. The company offers a lot of opportunities for learning and growth, and encourages innovation and creativity.
Cons
The company’s policies are not aligned with the current best practices and expectations of the tech industry, especially regarding remote work and diversity. Some employees are allowed to work from home, while others are not, creating an unfair situation. The company does not have an ERG, which makes it the only one in its field without one. As an LGBT person, I feel like the company does not value or support my identity and needs. The pay is below the market average for similar roles and skills, and the health insurance is confusing and inadequate. The company switched from BCBS to a lesser-known provider that has lower coverage and higher deductibles. The company does not have a separate sick time policy, which means that employees have to use their PTO whenever they are ill. This reduces the amount of vacation days that employees can enjoy, and also discourages them from taking care of their health.
