Pros

I have been worked at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence full-time for 2 years. I the company was amazing! They fully supported me and helped my transition form the public sector tot he private sector.

Cons

Working on client side detaches you from your base company but that is all being part of a consultant.

Pros

In general - great flexi-hours, diverse and cool projects, easy mobility (internal role transfers) within company, great staff and camaraderie, excellent shares scheme, training support, expenses policy and relatively good pay. When I leave the company for broader experiences, I fully intend on coming back as it will always be my home. Air sector (north west sites) - loads of overseas opportunities, travelling around for work, many projects. Maritime sector (south west london sites) - good management, relaxed working environment, growing business, modern outlook and good onsite IT support.

Cons

General - bureaucratic nature due to military/legacy contracts, upper management resistant to real, modern change, in-house IT apps are tailormade to hinder your job. Air sector - no apparent career progression line or support as technical/SME, lack of effort to retain talent, constant re-organisation (high instability, confusion, lack of transparency, wishy-washy vision from senior leadership with little to no benefit), strictly do not allow working from home unless exec grade, beady-eyed monitoring of absences, management get twitchy and process-heavy over flexible working arrangement requests, senior/exec roles are generally not advertised but via taps on shoulders and who knows who, management can be rigidly process-driven without discretion (constant mantra to follow the company policy but do not know the process themselves). Marine sector - pay rises difficult to negotiate, work can be repetitive in software dev.

Pros

For those with a passion for engineering. A company always changing and adapting to meet the needs of the market place and remain competitive. Aerospace technology requires a striving for perfection and high performance, excellence in all things particularly technological innovation, skills, and customer service.

Cons

Obsolescence and redundancy was inevitable for someone with my limited and out of date skills.
