Good pay and benefits but...

Pros

The pay is good, better than any office/administrative job outside of the shipyard The hours are set, including lunch which is 1/2 an hour You get paid holidays as long as you work the day before and after, and you don’t have to work on the holiday unless they really need you. Then you get double pay for the hours worked and the holiday pay on top of that. You get paid regular hours when attending company function (Christmas party) You get paid weekly You accumulate vacation/PTO Parking is free

Cons

The work place is like a rumor mill People are nosy and want to get in your personal business You are not allowed to have your cell phone on you because it is a secured location, but there are people bringing their phones in and even watching movies while they sit at their desk There are people there with such horrendous attitudes and they do not get checked even though you have brought it up to management or even HR and ethics They talk about ethics, but so many employees do not posses the workplace ethics they talk about Dress code is not enforced by certain managers and if you say anything about it to HR or ethics, you get treated badly for saying anything, even though another rule is no retaliation If you are not a manager or higher, you are doing your work and your bosses work and anyone else’s work who needs your help and you don’t get paid more for it When it’s time for a yearly review, you need to fill out these assessment questions in order to get a raise and you won’t always get your raise even though you have busted your butt all year to get a raise They tell you not to come in if you are sick, and you even have Dr notes for sick days and then they tell you that you were absent too much, as if you could have it both ways There are absolutely no cameras or camera phones allowed, so if you need a picture of something, which is always good for documentation and evidence, only a safety person can get a camera from a government official, which is a tedious process, you just won’t get that picture or by the time you get it, time has passed making that picture pretty much useless You share free parking with the navy, government, contractors and subcontractors, so if you go after a certain time, you might as well go to the far parking which is about a 15-20 min walk away Lunch is only half an hour but you always see people leaving early and strolling in late You are always going to see people taking multiple smoke breaks during the day Workers are hiding or going around gossiping and getting paid for it, while other workers are working so hard to make an honest living HR is not as helpful as you would expect because the main person left in charge after the director left was very unprofessional, biased and under qualified for the position

Decent stepping stone. No long term growth.

Pros

There is a lot to learn. Stepping stone for possibly going elsewhere.

Cons

They only train you on what you need to know for the job. They don't promote internal or external growth. They don't pay market average nor attempt to remain competitive. We worked severely understaffed for over a year until they ultimately closed the office. No transparency with management and employees. Constantly expecting more and assigning additional work without extra compensation. Extremely demotivating to work for this company. All intelligence went elsewhere and left the team full of warm bodies to fill seats. Unless you're unemployed, look elsewhere.
