Pros

Lot of good people. Company hires veterans and disabled periodically. Attempts are made via All Hands meetings to keep employees informed; however, scuttlebutt is more effective in most cases.

Cons

Overboard loaded with middle management. Lots of micro-management. Every 3 minutes of activity has to be accounted for, and as a result, there is a lot of "cheating". Good ideas/suggestions are sometimes victim of attempted management hijack, and if unsuccessful, roadblocks are put in place. Safety issues discovered require lots of effort to get beyond middle management. Management boondoggle trips are common. Watch your back. Charitable giving decreased markedly along with company benefits. Some programs leadership very arrogant. Customers have been made to jump through unnecessary hoops to obtain needed information. Access to state of the art software tools usually is not possible due to costs, short sightedness, and squandering of resources on management.

Pros

Gain some world class experience in all facets of the particular business, but have to "pull teeth" to get opportunities to learn. Great camaraderie, nice folks. With some positions, the pay is decent.

Cons

The Diversity and Inclusion program is just discrimination with a different face. While trying to show a corporate dog and pony show, experienced workers are discriminated against.Violations of the Fair Pay act, paying some people more money for the same and additional work, regardless of length of experience. Nepotism and cronyism are rampant. Benefits have deteriorated in just 4 or 5 years. It seems the company is trying to keep more of your pay due in order to increase shareholder value. Some common benefits now have to be paid for and the company blames obamacare for some of the increase in costs. While boasting of a 'Team' effort, members are left out except when it is convenient to management. Disparity in pay across business for same jobs. Company dictates performance reviews to limit high performers, so incentive to exceed is removed. Bonuses disappeared and are now only for upper management, another incentive gone!

Good Place For Bad Managers

Pros

Decent compensation/benefits - pretty much as expected with a large multinational. There are pockets/organizations that do very interesting work and collaborate well. There are opportunities around the country and the globe if you are willing to relocate - which helps if you don't like the job/manager you signed on for.

Cons

Within parts of the business, there is little room for advancement. Many organizations "protect their silos," and "unfunded mandates" rule the water-cooler chatter. A big problem is unaccountable managers in some locations - lots of CYA and very little forward thinking. In several years with the company and through several managers I rarely heard "What do YOU think?" and never heard from a senior manager "How can I help?"
