BASF is a highly political and bureaucratic organization, it takes a long time to get anything approved (projects, process, or equipment). Decision making is top down and not collaborative. Many groups work in silos which makes sharing best practices across business units or sites difficult. Contractors are treated like second class citizens in the plant environment.
Work life balance is often talked about but on a plant level be prepared to work 50 - 60 hr weeks plus calls which can lead to low morale at the plant Personal development is at the descrition of your immediate manager or supervisor; if he or she is not on the same page as you be prepared to be denied access to certain classes or activities.
Performance evaluations are highly political, you can have a great review one year and then be expected to "take one for the team" the following year pending business unit performance.
