Pros

Got the large company experience vs small business experience that was missing from my resume

Cons

I had gone through a temp agency for the first time and the position was temp to hire. I was told when given the offer, as with most temp positions, you are temp for 3 months and then if they decide to hire it will be at the 3 month mark. Well time goes by, no major complaints, however 3 months rolls around and I get a call from the temp agency stating the company would like to see some minor changes and improvements with my job. Okay, no issue, I understand, and make the necessary changes and am told that they will touch base with me again in a couple weeks to make sure the changes have been made and was still told by my recruiter at the staffing agency that BDO was still planning on hiring me. A few weeks later, my recruiter checks in again, says everything looks good to go and they still want to hire me, however they're waiting for their busy season to end. For some reason, I believe this despite all the red flags. First I was hired for the front desk - come busy season they hire another temp for the front desk to give me additional work for the busy season. However, this was another lie as basically they took me off the front desk and stopped giving me any work to do and I had already gone and completed any work that I found needed doing and gave all overtime opportunities to everyone but me. Moving forward, the busy season comes to an end and the last update I heard from the staffing agency was good, yet the tax deadline rolls around and everyone leaves the office and the next day when the office is closed, I do not get a phone call, I do not get an email, I get a TEXT MESSAGE saying my time with BDO has ended and to not return to the office tomorrow with no more information than that. Now I don't know whether to blame BDO more or the temp agency more however BDO is letting this temp agency represent their company so either way this shows how little BDO cares for their employees to allow someone to find out they just lost their job through a text message. I have never felt more disrespected by anyone especially after I gave them 6 months of my time, during which I did not receive any benefits, overtime, PTO, extremely underpaid for the job/amount of work, etc and was being told repeatedly that the company was happy with me and wanted to hire me. I do however fully respect the company's decision to not hire me as it is their right to make that decision, but the way the situation was handled was extremely disrespectful and I will not be recommending this company to anyone. Then after this whole incident of letting me go through text message. I find a new job, but they need to confirm my employment at my 3 most recent places of work, and I think no problem - it's not a recommendation just employment verification, very standard. I come to find out that neither the temp agency nor BDO will confirm my employment with either one and they were listed as "will not cooperate". Luckily I was able to explain the situation and get it sorted out, therefore they were not only disrespectful in the way they let me go but almost prevented me from even moving on with my life. Again in both scenarios who is to blame more - the temp agency or BDO? I don't know for sure, however BDO is allowing that temp agency to represent them and even during my time working at BDO, I have never worked in a more hostile, disrespectful place where everyone talked down to me and made it clear they're above you. From my point of view I was simply used and I believe, given the way I was treated during and after, that they knew shortly after the 3 month mark that they did not want to keep me, however were saying whatever they needed to keep me from looking for new jobs and leaving to be cheap labor for their busy season and simply used me for it and then threw me away like trash via text message.

Pros

Base compensation Is slightly competitive I will say that.

Cons

Managers in specific, smaller groups have questionable qualifications and are only favored due to sheer experience (length of employment within the firm) extreme favoritism and unprofessional behavior. Office politics are at an extreme- managers will gossip with admin instead of doing their jobs efficiently. Personal vendettas and jealousy is a large issue at hand here. It’s as if the low morale and hostile workplace environment has regressed managers back to high school. Certain new staff especially younger staff members are set up to fail in some ways depending on their interactions with management.

Pros

Big Company that is rapidly growing. Freedom to move around as you please.

Cons

Struggled with assimilation after the merger with UHY. Tax just was not able to compete on the corporate side. Company would accept engagements that were so small it was very difficult to remain profitable. Didn't seem to want to utilize all available resources in order to compete with bigger firms. Growth mostly came in form of acquisition of smaller regional firms. That creates culture clash. Growth not coming in the form of increasing market presence. Will take over your life without remorse
