It's all about who you know...

Pros

Free membership (not much of a perk, but hey, it's still free) Free food (pb&j in the break room, sometimes expired bakery stuff) You will meet nice coworkers

Cons

Favoritism- it's all about who you know and not what you know. I have seen countless TMs, Managers, Regionals and Home Office people get promoted who did not deserve to and were all grossly underqualified for those new titles. And it was not due to lack of candidates. I am not speaking about myself, but there were plenty of people that were much better qualified for most of these open positions and they were not even considered because they were not friends with one of the hiring managers. It's embarrassing and irresponsible. There are TMs who hang out with managers on the weekends. Regionals who party with managers. Directors who party with direct reports-this should not be allowed, and BJ's just turns a blind eye. Hours- If you're a manager, you work an insane amount of hours. Managers work close to 60 hours, but get paid for 40. TMs barely get the hours they ask for because payroll is such a huge topic and so low. Structure- every week they're promoting another AVP or SVP of something. Do we really need this many bosses? Unrealistic expectations- there are what feels like 45 checklists to complete every day on top of running the building. Every day there is the chance of an audit, that you're critically judged on, but means nothing in the real world. They want to write you up for one piece of toilet paper on the floor. Outdated everything

Terrible experience

Pros

Benefits, Starbucks in the lobby.

Cons

Terribly long hours, forced to work on weekends and at night at home as well as through lunches. Put in conference room with other colleagues and God forbid you talked or had to go to the restroom. Management was horrendous and treated employees poorly. God forbid you had to leave to go to a doctors appointment. Do as I say not as I do. HR also handled things poorly when complaints were filed. My health was compromised because of the conditions. I provided several doctors notes to no avail. The grandmother of a colleague suffered a major stroke. The colleague took a day off to see her grandmother and was chastised for it.

Pros

Good people to work with in your own club. Bonus was nice at year end. Benefits are ok, such as 401k, vacation, and sick time accrual

Cons

Too many checklists and audits occur daily, monthly, and yearly. There is not enough time in the day to complete the required functions of the job with current level of staff. Upper management is a joke. They care more for their self preservation than ensuring success of their team. I have been lied to and I know of unethical situations. It's ok for them to ignore policy when it's best suited for them, but will force you to separate your team members for the same policy violations. Since the change in upper management , they have done a terrible job. Just wish they would sell the company and end the torment they put managers and team members through everyday.
