Pros

None that I can think of

Cons

BMO is a terrible bank for the clients and the employees. The senior leadership just gaslight you day in and day out and blame the workers for their miserable failures without taking any ownership or even acknowledging BMOs failures. Systems and process are so bad you can not do your job. They are trying to push employees out “organically” so they don’t have to pay severance by giving employees unattainable goals. Leadership does not want to hear any constructive criticisms if you speak up your scarlet lettered. They have no clue how to operate in or let alone be successful in the west coast markets and they bring in leadership from Canada that are clueless how to do business here.

Pros

There are many wonderful colleagues, which takes the edge off some the challenges. Family-related benefits have expanded. Many different departments, and therefore career choices.

Cons

Problematic managers are tolerated, creating unnecessary damage to morale and environmental quality. While the technology investment has been increased, particularly during the pandemic, there is still a significant functionality gap for key processes. Very disingenuously, salary increases were frozen for 2020 performance year, despite very solid earnings. A huge slap in the face of thousands of employees who went above and beyond to serve clients and keep the business running. Of course, C suite got their raises.

Pros

company has been successful for many years and the banking industry has competitive pressures that could make for challenging work if a department is well organized

Cons

Terrible HR group in Chicago, great divide in opportunities between Canada and the U.S., terrible work environment overall but especially for POC, the total misrepresentation of work in the job description and interview process for the role I applied for and was hired into, significant decentralization and extremely poor organization of work, terrible leadership, the tolerance of extremely unprofessional behavior towards others, putting work fundamentally in the wrong hands, great wall of resistance I encountered as a POC in doing my job and working with people, the obvious and blatant resentment of others to POC having opportunities (as if everyone but the POC got their jobs on merit), to the deep silos and poor skillsets of many of those I worked with , the generally very negative attitude towards POC that I experienced in many forms with many people in the Chicago office - all of these made for the worst work experience I've ever had. That is a comparison I make having worked in more than 5 other companies in my career and, from the outset of my time at BMO, I found the combination of these issues to be truly unique (terrible) and have never experienced anything like it (not even close to anything like it) in all of my years of working.
