Pros

BNSF Railway has been in business for well over 165 years. I've had the opportunity to work in various departments (from TS to Operations to Contract) and found out what it takes to "move the railroad". If you land a job at BNSF, I highly suggest you learn the Operations part of the railroad... and have an open mind. The company does embrace Diversity.

Cons

Long hours... but how many companies out there still have the typical 8-5 job ?

Pros

Railroad retirement benefit is much greater than SSI. Opportunity to make decent money if you are willing to forfeit everything else (family, relationships, your soul) for it.

Cons

Politics are valued more than skills (or anything else). Business is changing, but BNSF has set their target for change toward the model of Apple or Microsoft in the 1970's. By the time these goals are met, BNSF's "progressive new image" will be outdated by 50 years. All talk, no action, backstabbing, cutthroat, generally a breeding ground for mental illness.
