Company wants to Grow but People don't

Pros

Good health care benefits. Very smart people at the bottom who are driven to learn. There a select group of people at the bottom of this company who make the company run.

Cons

Not ready to grow. Company isn't interested in making a faster and more efficient process. When an idea is presented to them it's many times ignored and disregarded. For example automating the upstream process for less manual labor, upgrading equipment to meet our demands, spending more time in validation to ensure safety, integrity, strength, purity, and quality of the product as well as reduction of cross contamination. Not a safe area to work. Waste is left in the parking lots in drums to sit in the heat (search Bachem EPA for more info). Vista has concrete in their emergency shower drain lines. This insures if an emergency shower is pulled all people in the area are contaminated with the chemical. Work ethic in many departments is very poor. IT takes more than 4 weeks to issue a new computer. Software needs also take this long. QA is very easy to persuade to do what you want. Skill sets here are non existent. People who are at the top are there because they have been at the company for a long time and not because they are knowledgeable.

Pros

An excellent place to practice your job interview skills before interviewing at places actually worth working for. You will have job security because management is truly desperate to retain workers.

Cons

There's a reason why, even back when I was there, most new hires quit before their 3-month training period was up. There is severe and rampant mismanagement of both projects and people. As mentioned above, they're desperate to keep you, but they'll do it with textbook abuser behavior. Pay and benefits are subpar for the industry, and especially subpar for how much work will be expected of you above and beyond your job description. Timelines were already unreasonable when I was there, and they seem to have only gotten worse since I left. Enjoy working 16+ hour shifts every day doing things well above your pay grade, only to be told every year, "Sorry, your performance doesn't meet expectations, we don't think you're ready for a promotion" and a cursory 1% raise. Promotions are based purely on how thoroughly you enjoy tongue-washing boots, and how willing you are to claim credit for others' work. This facility has always been "safety last" - spills are common, multiple aspects of the facility constantly malfunction and are never fixed, and training is pure "sink or swim". Bringing up any of the above to HR will earn you some crocodile tears about how they "just didn't know", and if they decide they "don't like your tone", they'll find ways to make your life on the job miserable. This place will burn you out and scar you for life. Most people have stress nightmares about being back in school, or public speaking - my stress nightmare is having to come back to this place for work. There's a reason this facility has had not one, but two class action lawsuits in the past few years for its treatment of its workers (Google it! It's publicly available information!).

Not a very friendly place

Pros

Good health care benefits. New manufacturing technology that is very helpful to learn.

Cons

The company operates in a high-stress environment where leadership is frequently under pressure, often due to concerns about job security. There is a noticeable trend of bringing in new leaders without a clear focus on fostering or developing leadership within the existing team. This approach creates instability and undermines opportunities for long-term growth and mentorship. Additionally, the HR department appears to prioritize disciplinary actions and terminations rather than actively supporting employees or contributing to a positive workplace culture. This dynamic impacts morale and limits the potential for a cohesive and collaborative work environment. Overall, while the company may excel in other areas, addressing these structural and cultural challenges would greatly benefit employee engagement and retention.
