Pros
They have various benefits that you have to pay for out of your wages. You can opt for none of them. They had a bonus scheme which I did not benefit from because I was not there long enough. The site I was on had adequate parking. Also the parking lot has an entry and an exit so you can turn round without doing a three point turn in the road. They had good safety precautions and training to work with high voltages.
Cons
The department I worked for was involved in the oil and gas industry which if you follow events is not a department you want to work for. When I started I found out that GE had financially pulled out of Baker Huges. Various members of staff had left, including the person who interviewed me. Not a good sign. They replaced this guy with a man who I felt was not up to the job. They took ages after saying, yes, to finally take me on. They wanted me to take a medical in London before I could start. I had to pay for the trip there because I was not working for them. If you have to take trains into London or park in London for this you will understand why this is a problem. The room I had to work in was cold, I could wear my own clothing but for some reason not a fleece or jumper. This was in winter and the room was cold. When I worked for them during the day I found people there helpful. Despite having to get up early I would have liked to remain on the day shift, in hindsight, and received more training. They put me on the nightshift after a month there. This month was broken up by Christmas and new year holidays and a lack of work before the holidays. Then I was put on the night shift. I had agreed to this but needed to have had longer on the day shift to learn how to do my job. Instead of leaving me to work out how to use a piece of equipment on my own, having been shown I just needed to get my head round it, my supervisor decided I was struggling. I got the impression they were picking on everything I did, either they wanted someone they could not get, or they had no clue on how to train people, or both. Also, the e-forms were not user friendly and there were people there who admitted to this. When they decided to get rid of me I was taken into the manager's office and asked what I thought had gone wrong in what seemed to me at the time a patronising manner. I was then escorted to collect my things by an idiot who turned the toilet light out on me while I was putting my contact lenses in.
