      Great Job for those who love children

      Pros

      A Substitute has freedom to work as much or as little as they desire. You can choose which schools or teachers you work for. I can also choose grades and subject matter that I teach. Having a degree will increase the pay. Gives me the freedom to continue school and work at the same time without overload.

      Cons

      Not everyone is always welcoming and helpful at certain schools.

      It is very satisfying helping kids with disabilities. It is wonderful being a champion of kids that don't have a voice.

      Pros

      10 month job. Working with wonderful teachers! Special Ed. Dept. is great and is staffed with smart caring personnel who think outside the box to help each student in their care.

      Cons

      Don't always get recognized by Principal or Vice Principal. Asked to make copies when you should be with student.

      I have been able to contriibute to curriculum development for the English Office and received recognition for my efforts outside of my school.

      Cons

      Pricipals have an inordinate amount of influence over the climate of individual schools, often to the detriment of the professional environment.
