Pros

PTO accrual is good Benefits are decent

Cons

Where to start? So many to list. 1. Recruiters will straight up lie to get you in the door. They will tell you the large majority of reps on the floor are above plan and making well into 6 figures. Here’s the reality. Last month less than 1% of SAEs hit goal and this month around 14% hit goal. 2. Toxic positivity culture. You aren’t allowed to speak negative, at all, even if you have legit concerns around deals, inbound leads etc. Speak negative and you’ll be out the door. 3. The recruiters tell you they have so many inbound leads that they don’t have enough reps to handle them. This is a lie, as an SAE you will receive 2-3 inbound leads a week to work on a good week and 1 on a bad week. Many of these leads aren’t truly qualified or in a position to buy, but you must work them “because it’s our job to convince them” 4. Sleezy car salesman discount tactics to “maintain leverage” (If you put your credit card on file today, I’ll have to make a strong business case to get your discount approved) 5. Mining. My gosh, what a joke mining is. You’re required to mine leads daily from a list of people dating back from 2017 that have asked to be taken off the telemarking list at least 5 times, do T even know who BambooHR is, bad emails and phone numbers etc. 6. Bad management. If you take a look at all of BambooHR sales leaders, they have never worked for any other organization. This is by design, it’s a parrot like culture where everyone echos each other. They don’t hire outside management or leadership for fear their fake utopia would crumble. 7. If you’re an external hire you will not succeed here. BambooHR knows this and they have stopped hiring externally because of the amount of careers they have ruined. Instead of taking responsibility for their mismanagement they now have begun spinning it and placing it on the reps in an attempt to put people on PIPs and downsize the company. 7. Oh, one more thing. Their inbound lead round robin system is rigged. Don’t believe me? Call chillipiper and ask them how you can manipulate the round robin to favor certain reps ;)

Pros

Bamboo has a very relaxed work environment. They really understand that work doesn’t need to be the center of people’s lives and they practice what they preach, from the top down. Good insurance, fantastic end-of-year bonuses, and the sales team spends quite a bit of time on formal training and skill development (super helpful for people early in their sales careers). If you hate any top-of-the-funnel activities, this place could be for you! There is not cold calling, mass email campaigns, or prospecting in general. All leads are handed to AE’s by SDRs.

Cons

Overall, BambooHR is a place to have a very comfortable, yet average career. After 1-2 years, you will advance nearly all you can within Bamboo’s sales system and at that point, you can cruise along, doing your daily grind. If you make it that far, it can be a comfortable life-style. Chances are though, you’re in sales because you’re ambitious and you want to make good money and provide a better-than-average career for yourself or your family. That is pretty difficult, if not impossible to do here. The full salary pay methodology sounds great in theory, but in practice it is pretty handicapping. In most software companies, the top performing individual contributors are some of the highest paid employees within the company. At BambooHR, nobody out-earns a manager. The sales department has a strong hierarchy. There is a prevalent “we-know-better-than-you” feeling and if you provide open, honest feedback, (a crucial conversation, one might say) be prepared for some retribution. That being said, some managers are better than others. I’d say the top 1/3 of the managers are actually really solid people who can run a team well. The other 2/3 are flying by the seat of their pants and provide absolutely no value to their teams. There are a lot of politics and ambiguity around promotions and performance plans. Many people are promised a promotion or raise if they just do XYZ, yet when it is done, turns out there just weren’t enough promotion spots, so it continues over and over again. For performance plans, I’ve seen people fired after hitting metrics, I’ve seen people fired before they had the chance to hit metrics, but I’ve rarely seen anyone actually hit the needed numbers and hold onto their job. The software has an excellent UI and is very easy to use, I can’t knock that at all! However, the competition in HR software has really picked up and Bamboo is trying to make up for lost time when they didn’t make many improvements or strategic moves to further the company. The new CEO should really be helpful in that regard, I hope they can make those catch-up strides. Bamboo has done quite a good job of isolating themselves over the last few years, (ie. Not joining Silicon Slopes or mentoring many people or companies). This, on top of not much “top-of-the-funnel” experience, has lead to a strong bias to not hire former BambooHR employees in the Lehi area. If you do choose to be here for a couple years, be aware than you’ll need to to interview well and many Bamboo employee’s resume’s are thrown out before the first call happens. You don’t see many negative reviews on here because leadership typically conducts a witch-hunt to find the perpetrator when it happens. After one of the previous reviews from a couple weeks ago hit, leadership interviewed nearly every SAE, trying to narrow it down. I don’t typically post reviews, but feel it is my duty to speak up for those who can’t. I don’t hate BambooHR by any means, I learned a lot and made some of my best friends there. But if you’re seriously considering, please weigh out some of these pros and cons first. Good luck!

Pros

In terms of culture and values, it's a better place to work than most. Can be exciting at times. Benefits are standard for a tech company but could be better. The paid paid vacation benefit is a novelty. But it has been diluted by inflation. (A recent change addresses that to a limited extent but only for tenured employees.)

Cons

Total compensation just isn't competitive. Period. In the current economic environment Bamboo is years behind. Employees cannot meet their financial goals with company culture and goodwill. Leadership is distant and usually brought in from the outside. While junior folks are mentored pretty well, Bamboo does not have much of a track record of promoting leadership within.
