Words are great, Actions are HORRIBLE

Pros

Good product for those who are ok giving business to a company that chews and spits out it's workers.

Cons

During onboarding you'll learn about how the company values are essential to success and a cornerstone of day to day work. You'll be enticed, happy, and ready to contribute to that promised culture. You'll think you finally found a company that values you as a person rather than just a cog. Guess again, this company DOES NOT care about you - don't listen to what they SAY, watch what they DO. Actions speak louder than words in every facet of life, and BambooHR killed their culture in one fell swoop on Feb 3, 2023. The top performers who went above and beyond every day have updated resumes and are no longer motivated because they no longer trust the company. I am not exaggerating - every. single. top. performer. On Friday afternoon right before sending us off for our weekend (no coincidence on the timing there!), they called this presentation and led off with "good news, you guys are getting a raise! This is a great opportunity!" and then proceeded to inform us that quota had been skyrocketed, pay was actually DECREASED, and 95% of the floor is now set up for failure. Anyone with knowledge of 3rd grade math can do simple calculations that show our pay was reduced, which isn't nearly as bad as the mind-numbingly pandering way in which it what presented as a positive change. I've heard people on the floor have actually broken down the numbers and presented it to higher-ups to show that we're not nearly as stupid as they think. They won't change anything though. They'll just hire new SDRs - THEY EVEN SAID SO!! If you want to work for a company that preaches high values, but acts on the polar opposite side of the spectrum, come to Bamboo, they're as performative as it gets. They truly expect you to hit unobtainable numbers, get paid below average for it, and keep your mouth shut. During the early stages of my tenure I saw myself making a career at BambooHR and never leaving. I was so motivated to do what's right for the company because I was happy and was lulled into a false sense of value. Now, I don't care at all what happens to the company, I'll clock in until I find something better and then I'll leave, because that's what they do to my lesser-performing colleagues, and to be honest I'm very upset that I've lost passion for this job. They'll spit me and out the moment it benefits them financially, and then they'll wonder why all top performers lost their drive. IMPORTANT ADVICE: If you're reading these reviews while considering sales positions at BambooHR, only read reviews starting on February 3rd 2023 (and watch out for non-sales managers sending through 5 star ratings to hide the truth). This is what the current company looks like, this is the current atmosphere. Feb 3rd is the day they took the axe to their values, implemented massive changes, initiated them immediately (and retroactively!!!!), and destroyed the mindset of the entire SDR and AE floors. Never in my life have I been treated like a dumber human than I was on February 3rd and there is no coming back from that presentation, although I'm sure they'll use their empty words to try without any corresponding action.

Pros

Free ham and cheese sandwiches every company meeting. Great owners.

Cons

The managers in the SDR org are a joke. Go along with everything leadership says or you won't be a culture fit. The culture is shoved down your throat daily. If you leave the company they will go on a with hunt if you leave a bad Glassdoor review. The short answer reviews on here are a façade to push any negative true review down. Growth internally will take an eternity. The paid/paid "benefit" is a marketing tactic, you'll end up paying hundreds in taxes if you use the full $2k. Bonuses year to year is secretive. You'll have a better experiences at other companies within their sales organizations.

Great Culture is no longer a tradeoff for Low Pay

Pros

During my time at Bamboo I grew immensely as a professional. I was trusted with high-impact initiatives, given exposure to executive leadership, and learned much about the inner workings of the business. I was surrounded by phenomenal colleagues who were sharp, driven, and humble. All-around wonderful humans who made my day-to-day work a joy. Bamboo felt like a values-driven organization, and I saw the company values used to make decisions large and small. Work-life balance was prioritized, and I felt like I was empowered to do the right things, the right way. Benefits like 401k match, low healthcare premiums, a decent PTO plan, and paid-paid vacation were all nice elements in the total compensation package.

Cons

Unfortunately, Bamboo’s approach to base compensation is struggling to compete with market norms. Their comp strategy is based on a workplace climate about a decade old — where people were leaving toxic jobs and taking pay cuts in favor of a positive culture. But the market has changed. Bamboo’s positive culture is no longer rare, especially with tech companies touting unmatched culture exploding across Silicon Slopes. People don’t just want it all; they can go get it all — the values-driven work, the positive culture, the fantastic coworkers/management, AND a competitive salary. Especially as the future of remote work evolves, Bamboo must learn to compete with national and global companies. The company is seeing increased rates of turnover, all citing low pay as their reason for leaving. Some real comp data to illustrate my point: Software Engineer (BambooHR > new company, same job duties/title) ~$110k to ~$160k Systems Admin (BambooHR > new company, same job duties, different title) ~$65k to ~ $120k Operations Manager (BambooHR > new company, same job duties/title) ~$90k to ~$120k Project Manager (BambooHR > new company, same job duties, Senior title) ~$85k to ~$115k I’ve seen comments from industry experts in this extremely hot job market stating “if you’re basing your comp strategy on available data sources, you’re already pricing yourself out of the market. Inflation and salaries are increasing at a rate that available data can’t accurately reflect.” In addition to comp structure, Bamboo didn’t invest early enough in critical infrastructure like Operations or Data Engineering, and they’re now dealing with major resource constraints in those areas as the company tries to scale. I also saw numerous signs (some from direct interactions with the CEO) that indicated Bamboo was experiencing a cultural shift that treats frontline employees more like numbers than people. Toward the end of my tenure there, I came out of meetings that had me wondering, “do I really want to be part of where Bamboo is going?”
