Just as many others have said, the technical staff that keep the lights on are still a lot of good people, many have departed.

Cons

As others have said, this is a top heavy organization with far to many layers of inept management. Don't be fooled by the non profit status, current management pushed away from the goal of solving complex problems for the good our country to squeezing clients for every dime they can. I've never witnessed so many overrun or failed programs except for this newly managed "CEO Wadsworth" era. Internally, the goal of management is to do whatever it takes to achieve the incentive based bonus, even at the cost of the company as a whole. The live for the day mentality leaves much in disarray as many staff are pushed to there limits due to the lack of qualified staff remaining to complete tasks.

Pros

Largest R&D non-profit in the world! Who makes remarkable products that protect and save lives, including our troops. It felt great to contribute to something that helped others. Also, being a non-profit they supported many charities.

Cons

Same old white make leadership making poor decisions one after another. They need to clean from the top down. Instead, many have lost their jobs and this once amazing company is still losing. As baby boomers retire, creating a bidding war for best performers, more and more talent will leave. Hope they get it together!

The people I work with are great; they care about the mission and want to to great things for our clients. The technical people are great and I'm able to influence and make an impact.

Cons

The senior leadership is awful. Battelle has been good to me overall, however the current leadership is inept at best. The current CFO is trying to homogenize roles to the point where individual talent and ability doesn't matter...he seems to want to make everything a push button process. He came from a lawncare company and thinks that everyone is just some dude who spreads grass seed or fertilizer on your lawn; he doesn't seem to realize that in non-commodity companies, government contractors and specifically a R&D companies specifically, the talent of the people are the value proposition. He's actually called my boss by the wrong name on a few occasions in public forums; so embarrassing for my boss given that's he's great and highly thought of across the organization. Scientists have a great opportunity here, but if you work in the business support or finance side run for your life!
