      Don't be fooled by "not for profit" desigation.

      Pros

      The people who work here are passionate and committed to what they do. In past years flexible hours were supported.

      Cons

      Currently in a downsize mode and have been so for years. Benefits have been cut and the cost to employees have increased over the past several years. Sick time was rolled into PTO, and they took away our coffee. Upper level staff is expected to sell and bring in money into the company, including those that are not trained nor interested in doing so. Expect employees to be at least 80% on project, but not enough project work is provided in order to accomplish that goal. Morale is low overall and for many staff much time is spent working on proposals for government contract work rather than working on actual projects. It is not for profit but run like a for profit company,

      Not the Battelle it was before

      Pros

      The work Battelle does is great. It's great working with some of the smartest people in the world.

      Cons

      Battelle is taking all the great benefits from the employees. It was the place everyone wanted to work because they were good to the employees. It's like every other place out there now. They keep cutting and cutting. The morale is horrible. I can't see myself retiring here anymore.

      Battelle has a very strong reputation among certain US Government clients. Having worked here lends some credibility to your resume.

      Cons

      This company is a shell of what its reputation suggests. Management lacks an understanding of business conditions and has unrealistic expectations. Investments are not being made in facilities (e.g., lack of management support for needed research equipment) or personnel (e.g., there is little to no support for training, conference attendance). The benefits are now at industry norms and appear to be tending to an even lower level.
