Poor management, unfair hiring practices, poor financial planning, poor pay, poor benefits, off site employees are not cared for at all. No defined structure for career progression, no opportunities to advance

Pros

I worked for Battelle for about 13 years and have built many lasting friendships. My hours were fairly flexible and the work was the most rewarding. Knowing that what you are doing is contributing to the greater good of mankind is a reward in itself. Battelle offers a pension even if you don't retire from there.

Cons

The benefits are not the best. There was no compensation for good work, although there was a 2-3% annual increase. I have found many other companies offering more competitive pay and better medical insurance. There is constant reorganization. At least once a year there are lay offs and sometimes a month later they will start bringing in new people. Everyone is fearful of losing their job.

Pros

This is a well-known company, so it is nice to have on one's resume if one is not so close to retirement. It is one of the last companies to have both a savings plan and a pension plan, but I suspect that won't be the case much longer.

Cons

All management decisions are made with the only consideration being the bottom line. There are so many bean-counters being paid high salaries to make the numbers look good that it is difficult for the numbers to be positive. The company is hugely upper-management overweight.
