Pros

I used to love working at Battelle. It used to be an exciting place to work, had great benefits and great work-life balance.

Cons

Battelle has gone from being a leader in the scientific and homeland security businesses to one that is loosing respect both from its employees and its clients, particularly its government clients. Its become all about politics, favoritism and misguided work goals. Older seasoned employees are often laid off while younger employees (cheaper) are left to do work they aren't able to do. The result is too often poor work output, loss of respect from clients and loss of business. At the Battelle office I worked at for several years over 75% of the staff were let go or laid off over the past few years. The staff who were left were often very highly overpaid managers running inexperienced staff who really didn't know what they were doing. Morale was so bad anyone who could leave did as soon as they could, and many were quickly snapped up by companies that appreciated them and used their skills wisely.

Pros

The best thing about this place is that you will never get bored. The work is always exciting and changing and you are always doing something new. Pay is average. Will learn how to make your own business.

Cons

Battelle expects you to bring in your own business and do your work too. If you cannot find work for yourself to keep busy, you should be job hunting. It makes you wonder what the advantage if working at battle is. Some managers will help their employees find work. Others will say that it is up to the employee to do that. Managers are praised over engineers. Engineers are told they need to bring in business. In order to go anywhere at the company you must bring in money. However you will be penalized if you spend time on proposals. Not sure if anyone has realized this paradox. Management is very inconsistent. Some managers are great and would offer to help you while you are stuck here over the weekend. Others laugh at the idea of working till 5 on a Friday. Pay is almost exactly average, and raises are pretty minimal. No chance of bonuses unless you are senior.
