Pros

Great official company values like supporting work/life balance, empowerment, continuous improvement, diversity. Official company benefits include insurance, paid vacation, personal, & sick time with caveats in certain departments.

Cons

Members of customer facing department do not enjoy the same work/life balance support as other departments and are punished for using allotted sick time. "Paid sick policy is not the same as attendance policy," is a line I never heard at any other company. Political environment. Managerial discretion is too loose. Mid level management does not seem to be held accountable for supporting company values & I have seen that going to HR is never to an employees advantage. One particular manager shuts out any information that is contrary to what she wants to hear & attempts to intimidate people who do not see things her way. Over emphasis on numbers & too little focus on good behavior leads to sloppy work & bad behaviors that are practiced so the numbers look good.

Pros

Southern California climate! The facility was nice and in a great location close to a lot of attractions and 30 minutes from the ocean.

Cons

Their clinical trial pipeline is a bust. They run Phase 3 clinical trials on very anecdotal information that cost extraordinary amounts of money to conduct and fail to meet primary and secondary endpoints or run trials too difficult to recruit. They outsource things with too little management oversight so when it falls apart, it is the fault of the CRO and never of Baxter. Huge amounts of time are spent on busy work and the SOPs that govern the work are 25 or more pages long and internally inconsistent or so vague nobody knows what they mean. Each process requires many steps including finding the person who actually knows how to do it so they can help you to get it done. The inefficiencies are legendary and people laugh about the SOPs or that a particular clinical trial is mess. Yet, nobody ever asks why that trial was a mess or does any "lessons learned." The presentations regardless of topic are notoriously poor with each containing grammar and spelling mistakes or are in need of updating to cover the new name for the group or the department. Everything gets second guessed no matter how small the issue so nobody is empowered and the usual decision is not to decide or run to maintain the status quo.

Pros

- Fantastic Work/Life balance if you don't insert yourself into demanding roles - Wonderful physical work environment - Northern Illinois facilities have credit unions, laundry service, fitness center, etc. - Tuition reimbursement programs - financial support and scheduling flexibility available for higher education options - Eventually, you'll find your niche - There is a plethora of opportunities at Baxter. There are a lot of internal shift/movement opportunities for those looking to try something new without leaving the business. - Community Outreach - Baxter does a lot for the local community and cultural institutions. Baxter employees benefit from the beautiful, healthy environment and are able to enjoy perks such as free admission to many museums and gardens.

Cons

- Occasionally feel like you're pushing a rope - Upper management does not always show appreciation for hard work - "Credit" for efforts often unjustly distributed
