Pros

Average Pay and benefits, good coworkers. Decent training department to get the experience needed to go to work for a better petrochemical company.

Cons

Be ready to be belittled everyday you come to work. Engineers are managing the area with no management experience or true idea of what shift worker go through. Ideas or alternate ideas or not considered from a technician level. We have 5 engineers for every technician, but they continue to cut technicians and hire more engineers. No retirement, insurance gets more costly every year, bonuses are a fraction of the competition.

Pros

Excellent 401(k), nice time off packages, great pay. Company has a very in-depth intranet and info is accessible to all employees. Company seems to embrace technology. Company communicates good values system.

Cons

Individual authority is VERY limited - All decisions must be fed up the chain and approved by the CEO (i.e. additional headcount, capital spend, etc.) - even the VPs are not empowered to make $40k hiring decisions. Frustrating, slow-moving company with arthritic decision speed. Corporate culture is to work 24/7, recognition is for working "long hours" (read: weekends, evenings, holidays) vs. actually achieving anything. Also, company is extremely reluctant to take any risks at all, therefore communications are exceedingly slow. Org structure is constantly changing/restructuring - feels a bit like change for change's sake, as the changes aren't held long enough to measure true impact.
