Pros

-The benefits are good for full time employees. -You get the opportunity to travel, on short notice. (I was literally told to move across the globe in 1 week.)

Cons

-You are often locked into your job, until the end of a project at which point you're laid off. You are pretty much on your own to find a new job. -Training in the company is rather poor. If you've seen the 40 year old technical manuals QC and Construction BCert employees are using to train, it is pretty embarrassing. -Questionable qualification of some employees. Getting a PE license isn't going to keep our esteemed Engineering department from making poor designs because they have NO EXPERIENCE IN A PLANT. -Pay is not competitive with the clients we work for. -OT is not paid for certain positions. If senior employees are working 11, 12 hours a day to do the work in a 10 hour day they should be re-imbursed at a fair rate. Not a bonus that is 1/4 the cost of the hours they put in. -Quality is quickly falling on projects as more and more jobs are outsourced. More Bechtel projects seem to have some rather significant issues that are frankly embarrassing. This leads our 'repeat' customers to leave us. -Site employees are second class citizens compared to those working in the home offices. -Over utilization of visa holding employees, not hiring enough employees (state side) with U.S. citizenship. Hiring visa holders to work in the states should be the exception, not the rule. -Rampant anti-union attitude when most of the non-manual employees at this company have never held a tool or worked in the trades.

Pros

Great salary, time-off policies, convenient location, opportunity to travel.

Cons

Too much bureaucracy, office politics, poor morale. They have too many managers that somehow climbed the ladder many years ago but are horrendous at managing people. Tis the age of the MBA, not the experienced, proven worker.

Pros

When there is work, you can make a lot of hours. They do stress safety.

Cons

No work/life balance. Lots of OT. Power division employees will get put on 'holding status' (unpaid) between projects for up to 90 days then they will terminate you. They might call you back after you have used all your saved up vacation. Very hard to switch between divisions, though they have work in them. They are getting rid of higher paid experienced people and it shows in the quality, which means less work. They have almost no work in the power business in the US. Though safety is stressed, things aren't quite what they should be. And lastly, there are cliques, and they are strong-the only way to keep working. I have a few weeks before I'm terminated.
