Great Place to Work Just Misaligned For Skillset
Pros
Awesome team, fast-paced environment, cutting-edge tech and a worthwhile mission to get behind!
Cons
Authority / Reporting structure outside of C-Suite executives were unclear. For example, I was a Senior ML engineer that reported directly to the CTO (on paper) but found myself answering to another Senior Software Engineer. Both are phenomenal at what they do, but dynamics like this made it difficult to move quickly. The biggest problem for me was that in the 8-months I was there, I didn't get the green light to work on a single ML project (outside of a quick one-off project I completed in my first few weeks). Instead, it was a never ending stream of non-ML related tasks. I learned quite a bit about diabetes, pharmacodynamic / pharmacokinetic mechanics, how their existing systems worked, but I never really had the opportunity to work on what I'm specialized at and so it was tough to keep up. With that said, I would definitely recommend working there as I think Beta Bionics has the potential to overtake the market share for insulin pumps and it's simply an overall great place to work.
