Pros

I have been at Overstock for a couple of years now and recently had a potential interviewee cancel because of the reviews here. What a waste. That potential associate never got to see the campus, enjoy a day with friends at Lagoon, listen to music at "Overstocktober", shop at the monthly on-campus Farmers markets, eat food from the on-site, organic greenhouse, relax in the Nucleus coffee house, push the boundaries of technology, experience a genuine Silicon-Valley culture in Utah, or work with some of the best people in retail. I saw the negative reviews too and I took a chance when I moved to Overstock. I don't regret it one bit. Don't just cancel your interview, come and find out for yourself.

Cons

Of course there are some cons to Overstock as well; no workplace is perfect. The building can seem a little sterile. Not all management is fabulous, some days there is no great choice in the restaurant. The grass on the lawn is a little long for soccer. As a non-exec, some leadership decisions sometimes seem a little strange. On the other hand, find me somewhere that this isn't the case and maybe I will consider applying...I will not expect a big rush.

Pros

Benefits, Lower management, company trips.

Cons

Everything else. We all know that things change within a company but things changed here so fast that even upper management couldn't give a clear answer as to what is and what inst being done. The culture has been distorted into something that it never was.

A Potentially Bright Future

Pros

Recent events have inspired me with hope and a potential for the company to take on a more professional tone and thus be more successful. There is a lot of room to move into new positions that you work for/toward. The new building will be complete in the next month, which will offer a brand-new, fresh, and clean work space with an effort to create a healthy and productive atmosphere. Some of the newer, upper-level management achieved their positions through hard work, knowledge, and experience, which provides a great opportunity for the company to move upward and hit some goals that its had for a few years. The employees generally bond well and get along with one another.

Cons

The last 5-7 years have been a variety show of impulse hires followed by various waves of layoffs and micro-exoduses of employees. There is a strong aroma of nepotism and popularity hires, which can be a benefit if you're on the right side of the tracks. The technology is slightly behind the dreamscape, and the expectations land far beyond the rewards and appreciation. Although, there are many praises, there are few rai$e$ for those who work diligently.
