Pros

Overstock strives to do the right things for the right reasons. I've worked for many companies, and this is one that tries to act on values before $'s. Patrick (CEO/Founder) genuinely tries to put the interest of employees as a priority. I think some on these postings don't realize that tough choices need to be made between maintaining a business while trying to maximize the needs of employees. Patrick and the executive team try to strike that balance. I'm appreciative of the awesome facility and amenities.

Cons

eCommerce is a tough competitive environment. That environment can feed the company's whipsaw shifts in tactics. I hope we can create greater stability to win our niche of this fast growing market.

Pros

One of the best collaborative and innovative places I have worked. The senior leadership for the product development is always open to new idea and help develop the talent. SVPs have an open door policy and always foster the innovation. In my short time over Overstock, I have been provided with ample new opportunities and work on some awesome products.

Cons

An official leadership development program for MBA recruits will be really helpful and will attract better talent from b-schools.

Agree on the "Hire more dev!" point. (To all devs reading this: we are hiring developers, please apply within.) You are right also about the need to develop a leadership program for MBA recruits. That would be a good next step. Incidentally, we are creating a special program to move women into leadership. We are really looking for strong female talent. See our want ads.

Pros

Was able to advance my skills and never felt bored or pigeonholed within one department.

Cons

Working within a data-driven company can mean you're making changes on the fly. SLC smog is an issue in the winter.
