Pros

Promote from within and really cultivate employees to move up in the company and reach their true potential. Relaxed attire.

Cons

Open format work environment. Almost everyone sits in a room of 10-15 other people, which may be stressful and/or distracting for certain personalities.

Not perfect (no company is) but works hard to improve

Pros

Some of the executives understand the company's cultural shortcomings and are working hard to improve it. There is lots of opportunity for promotion for those who understand how to maneuver through the system and are willing to deliver high performance consistently. There has been a consistent process in place for quite some time for delivering competitive pay and benefits and it is starting to pay off. Employees who are patient and willing to personally contribute to improve the culture are much happier and productive than those who only focus on the growing pains. Overstock has a bright future because the people who work here (including senior management) really care about making Overstock #1 in the industry. By many measures it already is. The tools and technology developed here are first rate.

Cons

The purpose of a company is to deliver superior value to the customer and other stakeholders. Some executives seem to forget that employees are also stakeholders. Conversely, some employees think a company exists only to make their lives better. The two competing views have caused friction in the past, and like any company, will cause friction in the future. My view is that the problems are simply a matter of growing pains.

Pros

The pay is okay. Pick and Pack starts at 10.00 and Stock Control starts at 13.00. If you like excercise this is a great job for that. Lots of walking, bending, streching, and lifting. As well as standing in one place while packing. Can meet a few great people to work with and for.

Cons

HUGE turn over. May not get full time hours until 4th quarter which runs from Oct. or Nov. through Dec. or Jan. Supervisor always telling you what a great job your doing, but can turn around with in minutes and tell you they can't help you keep your job if you don't do better. IF you get the chance to advance don't be surprised if you only get training towards half your job because they keep pulling you away from it to do your old job. The training you do receive is only partial. Their idea of teaching you how to pack is to put you at a packing station and tell you to put the item in the smallest box it will fit in without damaging the box and send it down the line. Then they bring the box back to you and tell you that you need a bigger box. You might trade boxes and get it back again and they tell you the box is to big. It can be very confusing. They change the way items get packed at least once a week, but don't tell you about it so you end up with an error. NO ONE is on the same page.
