Pros

Amazing Product Moving into a great new HQ location

Cons

C-suite leadership overall is lacking since the old CEO, CMO and COO left. New leadership is more concerned about padding their own pockets with high salary and bonuses while giving most employees less that a 2% wage increase in 2025. Layoff in November removed 90% of marketing's top performers and then leadership did another round of cutting in March. It is becoming a nepotism playground with new hires all being friends. Little to no internal growth (only get promoted now if you threaten to leave) and promotions not going to top performers. AI operations management is a said to be important but virtually no existent even though there is someone in seat to run it. Relationships between the Operations team and the Marketing team is toxic which makes it very hard to be successful.

Pros

Work from home, Decent pay.

Cons

Working at BigCommerce as a Technical Representative has been stressful and disappointing. They make it seem like a great place to work, but the reality is completely different. During hiring, they talk about quick promotions and career growth, but that’s just not true. They say you can move up in nine months, but it actually takes over a year - if you’re even lucky enough to get a promotion. The rules for getting ahead constantly change, so it feels impossible. Another big issue is job stability. People are hired for one thing but then get forced into different roles without any choice. The company is always short-staffed, leaving just one or two people to handle a massive workload. This makes the job super stressful, and it’s why so many people quit. The expectations don’t match reality - KPIs say support calls should be 15-20 minutes, but many problems take way longer. On top of that, the platform is full of bugs, and merchants get frustrated. They end up leaving bad reviews, which unfairly affects your performance score. There’s no real career development here. If you want to grow don’t expect any support. The training barely covers half of what you need to know, yet you’re expected to solve complex issues right away. Management is a mess. Policies change constantly, and even managers don’t know what’s going on half the time. If you bring up concerns, they just give robotic answers and stick to enforcing rules instead of fixing problems. They judge you on strict performance metrics but don’t even give you access to your own data, so you can’t see where you need to improve. The job takes a serious toll on your mental health. Between the constant pressure, platform issues, and lack of support, it’s overwhelming. Some coworkers even needed psychological help because of the stress. Work-life balance? Forget about it. The way things are run makes this job completely unsustainable. BigCommerce might look like a great place to work from the outside, but it’s not. The stress, mismanagement, and lack of career growth make it a bad experience. People don’t stay long, and there’s a reason for that. If you value your sanity, look for a job elsewhere. btw salary might look like it's good - no it's not, compared to what you have to go through it's totally not enough!
