Bio-rad is a generous paying company. You'll work with great people.

Maybe there should be a little more room for innovation.

Pros

Nice location, easy commute. Very low accountability so if you want to come to work just to hang out and chat, or if you are an under-performer with great sales skills (selling up), this is the place for you.

Cons

Most managers have never worked anywhere else. Favoritism towards employees that come to Bio-Rad straight out of college and work their way up. This means that those with advanced degrees or significant work experience from other companies are undervalued and get passed over for promotion and the top projects. Conservative and cheap to a fault. Expect you to fly coach around the world and won't allow you to go over your meal per diem by a dollar. Slow to adapt to customer needs and market, which has resulted in significantly poor financial performance in the past few years. No raises, no promotions. Get in line for your promotion behind the six other people in your department that are underpaid. Political environment is the closest thing that I have seen to 8th grade- gossip, backstabbing and overall gross culture. Most of the under-performers get by because they are good at "selling" themselves to upper management. But, management never checks to see if they actually accomplished anything. Also the cafeteria is the worst!

They don't practice what they preach in their policies

Pros

Successful company; have some good products

Cons

They don't practice what they preach in their policies. 'Treating employees with dignity and respect is a myth and doesn't happen'. Departing employees are treated disgracefully. There are no leaders, hence there is no leadership! Far too many individual contributors only interested in themselves.
