      Really fantastic company, great people, amazing benefits

      Pros

      Friendly people Challenging work Unlimited opportunity for self-starters who take initiative Great benefits Amazing leadership, from exec to his staff and their reports. Some of the smartest folks I've ever seen in one place with great experience.

      Cons

      Lots of new people starting all the time who have to get used to the fast pace and ownership given to them. The media has no idea how well the company is doing and how much success we're having since we're a private company. Can make us look bad even though the business is very strong.

      The best company I've worked for

      Pros

      Career development. My role is constantly changing (in a good way!) and I'm always learning and challenged in my work. Hack Week. Four weeks per year that allow all employees to test and develop ideas, some of which become products (including one of mine :) Passionate and interesting people. I'm inspired by my coworkers. Biking to the office. I love working and living in San Francisco.

      Cons

      A year ago, there were gaps in leadership. Most of those have been filled now with amazing leaders like Sarah Friar, Gokul Rajaram and Francoise Brougher joining the team. We're still a young company and over the past three years, I've seen lots of ups and downs. I'm feeling optimistic for the year ahead.

      high engineering bar but poor executive leadership

      Pros

      Competitive comp and good work life balance. Most of the ICs and frontline EMs left are capable and driven people.

      Cons

      Block is sadly a slowly sinking ship. Innovative product launches plateaued 3 years ago and the company has repeatedly floundered when trying to course correct. This is due entirely to poor executive leadership but there hasn't been any turnover on the exec team in years. Instead, Jack has mandated repeated layoffs at the sprint team level. The irony is that he accidentally fired most of the people who were on the bleeding edge of AI adoption.
