Pros

Inspiring mission, dollars spent wisely; CEO and Senior Leadership have a great vision; rewarding day-to-day work, partnering with volunteers and being part of campaign growth

Cons

Environment varies from Chapter to Chapter depending on local leadership. My Chapter’s culture is toxic; morale and turnover is horrible. HR has not been receptive to concerns. EDs don’t seem to have a clear role or accountability.

Pros

Funds researchers. Provides employment for people.

Cons

Wasteful spending on meetings, travel, hotels, meals, meetings and tchotchkes. Multiple layers of administration. Waste money on keeping former employees as "consultants". Inadequately funded programs for patients. Programs only last a couple of weeks/months, just so organization can say that they do something for patients. They spend more money to keep machine going than to serve people with blood cancers.

Pros

The best reason to work for the organization is that you will are an instrumental part of the cure for cancer.

Cons

I can only speak for the Northern & Central Florida chapter. There was no clear management or training for any of its employees. The executive director had her own agenda and rarely did the job description meet the daily expectations. My advice to anybody who works for the organization is to make sure you get everything in writing and make sure you communicate often with the national offices to ensure that the job you were hired to do is actually the job you are doing.
