Cons

So I'm one of those who joined as a technical person but HR placed me in an admin team where I was forced to do data entry and do the most useless things. Definitely learned a lot of finance (top of the industry knowledge) but that was not what I came for (lots of people work for top asset management companies after). It takes a lot of mental energy to shape your role into more of a technical one. The department has some interesting initiatives to modernize and if you have skills, managers will heavily invest in you. Managers seem open to discuss any project proposals you have but keep in mind it always comes down to metrics (annoying but at same time understandable). Also to even submit a PR takes ticketing and waiting for migrations to finish before you can do anything. Projects are not coordinated or documented well so this is an area for improvement. Managers can sometimes be micromanaging and gossipy. They fired a lot of the older managers so hopefully the culture will change. I am being worked to death like a mule putting in so much overtime just because managers like to add more to your plate without taking stuff off. They assign people operating capacities for review each year which means little because metrics are skewed and not even accurate (perpetual "you can do more" even when you work 60 hrs a week). Little to no innovation and managers always keep their head down amd never speak up to back you. Very much top down management from people incompetent to lead at top always requesting "the big picture". Anybody can make a decision when you give such high level numbers to someone... Overall, they need to overhaul management and place people in the technical roles they applied for as opposed to screwing them over with a client facing admin role. I gave 4 stars because really you learn a lot within the first 2-3 years here regarding communication and what bad management looks like and what to not do. You have opportunity to make a high impact and place it on your resume. Managers rarely talk about career advancement so up to you to figure things out. It will be really hard to advance your career due to the unnecessary burden you have from them overworking you, preventing you from interview prepping and studying. Your choice. You might be lucky and end up on a really good technical team. Also, Bloomberg "champions diversity" yet from what I experienced, older people can be microaggressively racist and HR doesn't do anything to people accused of harassment ("need evidence"). They also are not transparent about anything regarding diversity in workplace. Had really uncomfortable talks with people who are not aware of how racist they sound. I can understand why the department loses talented minorities every year. This experience varies department to department. Some departments do a great job recruiting and retaining talent but others are horrible because they hire from the same cloth.

Pros

*Great company benefits *Free food *High exposure to financial markets/clients *Respected company

Cons

*Weak team culture (often times will be team dependent but Global Data has a high amount of turnover which makes it difficult to develop something meaningful) *You can get by with doing basically nothing *Limited career prospects *Team Leaders are so focused on making themselves look like good leaders that they don't have time to actually be good leaders
