Pros

You get to work in rocket science

Cons

There is a scathing disconnect between management and the engineers required to get the projects accomplished. One example: In a scramble to restructure and segregate our departmental roles, Instead of promoting from within, we hired 2 upper management people from the outside. They were meant to take on the kingly stature of managing parties that they did not know, nor did they take into account the experience of these people, and grandfathered knowledge of the infrastructure. Subsequently, the staff are expected to prove themselves all over again. We are expected to suck-up to the new management with (Yes Sir – right away sir), while they are swathing in their own self important roles, and ignorance. This is not how work gets done! This is Yes Man BS – It is statistically proven to be detrimental to productivity. They have treated many of us like we are useless morons. It has caused a severe disintegration of our team culture. This is just one of many stories of how management has gone completely south in the company. There are others. But the truth of the matter is, the dream has flittered out for now.

Pros

Smart people. Exciting mission. Cool facilities. Not everyday you get to see rockets at your work place. People are generally pleasant.

Cons

I was promised to be allowed to build up a new team with myself at the center - "we look to build a team around you." Only a few months in, my manager decided to hire someone else to become team manager, leaving my role uncertain. Although I respect this decision and understand that needs can change, this was completely different than what was promised, and not the reason I joined the company. I felt that my time at Blue Origin was the hardest that I've worked anywhere, because I believed in the mission and liked the company image. Our team made tremendous progress, and the company reached a significant milestone. Unfortunately, I don't think they've treated me fairly. So, be aware of this type of culture when deciding to join the company.
