Pros

Only positives are occasional gratis and employee discount.

Cons

Management is completely awful. Everyone is out to blame others in fear of getting yelled at by The VPs. There are no performance reviews and absolutely no discussion of upward growth and career development. On any given day in the office you can hear someone down the hall yelling at another employee about something he or she did wrong. In the year I was with the company, I did not meet a single other employee who had anything nice to say about working there. Blue Mercury has an awful company culture where everyone is set up to fail. Computer systems are outdated so very equipped, intelligent employees are left doing busy work for 8 hours a day. The work is truly degrading. If you actually have buying or planning experience I would highly recommend avoiding working here because I guarantee you will not be exercising any relevant skills (unless you include troubleshooting oversized excel docs LITERALLY all day a relevant skill). If you care about your career and have intentions to succeed BEWARE and DO NOT WORK HERE. I really wish I had read these reviews prior to accepting a position here so hoping my review helps others. The work life balance is also pathetic, at this company no matter how hard you work or how well you do your job, you are looked down upon if you don't stay late every night. Benefits are also minimum and insurance is expensive.

Pros

It's so lame for this company that their only real perk is gratis. THE GRATIS COMES FROM THE VENDORS SOLD IN YOUR STORE. NOT FROM BLUEMERCURY.... so this "pro" is a kudos to the brands themselves. Not the actual store.

Cons

You're hired without being given full info on benefits and pay. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS. They will purposefully not tell you things. Like, no paid holidays, no time and a half, you'll work every Sunday and Saturday, requesting time off is punishable. This company does NOT set you up for success or value you AS A HUMAN BEING. They have very very high turnover because of their "scrappiness". Their DIRECTOR OF STORES ask their new hire managers to come on here and write good reviews at the end of the "new manager training". Hence the spurts of good reviews. MACY's now owns Bluemercury. Hopefully they will recognize how rotten the BM corporate structure is and they'll make MUCH more money when their people on the field are happy.
