Pros

Really good pay for customer service position

Cons

Management isn't concerned about or focused on helping customer service agents be included or respected in company culture. They do pick favorites and will put down, belittle and bully people they in their own perception think are not good employees despite the transparent efforts the employees give to improve and grow. Some managers are also not on the same page of what needs to be done so it causes confusion among customer service agents. From experience, you don't get to be a part of a team here. Keep your head down, do your job and don't speak up about anything they leave you alone for the most part. Company culture is also very clique and cold. People are fake and kiss up to get what they want. Management leadership styles encourage this kind of behavior. They say there is room to grow and move up but there is not enough growth for that to be a reality at this time despite the need for more help. Basic features for an online bank are also not available like instant transfers and reasonable mobile deposit processing times in which 85% of your calls will be providing empathy to people who are angry about this. It gets draining and exhausting, because of this managers have 30 minute 1 on 1's with you to review those and other calls. Of which, those 1 on 1's will not be empathetic or kind towards you or your efforts to be helpful to the customer. You will be put down if you work here which is why Bluevine lost nearly 50% or more of their customer service agents in 2022.

Pros

- Fantastic Benefits - Fantastic Internal Diversity and Inclusion Efforts - Monthly All-Hands lead to inter-organization goal alignment

Cons

- Slow internal processes lead to frustrated customers (typically 1-3 business day turnaround for any non-basic task) - Very few live escalations means agents are forced to take extremely difficult calls with no immediate resolution or aid for the client or themselves - Abnormal job movement restrictions for contact center agents (1 year in position preferred, others in the market have 6 month restriction) - Poor banking training and education for a financial services company. Most of my training was call handling and how to sound professional. - Extremely limited customer support ability for frontline staff. Most non-basic abilities were bottlenecked to senior management leading to delays and poor client experiences. A large percentage of calls issues could not be resolved during first contact. - No employee development or career pathing leads to no direction or funnels for frontline staff to look forward to. In addition to the 1 year internal movement restriction, it felt very stagnant and unfulfilling. - Limited ability for frontline staff to contribute input to processes and offer feedback. Most of the internal processes, situation handling, trainings, etc were handled by upper management. Frontline staff had limited input into decisions that affected them. Even with internal feedback options (forms to send to internal teams) there was very little follow-up and no way to know what effect your feedback had.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. While our goal is to make sure every employee has a positive experience at BlueVine, growing pains do arise and we’re working hard to continuously learn and iterate. Our support for PPP and small business during the pandemic took much of our focus away from traditional products, which was a learning curve for all of us. We aim to provide world class support to all BlueVine clients and hope that you were able to share your ideas for improvement with your team. As we look to continue building BlueVine, we’re investing in learning and development and will keep your suggestions in mind. We hear the frustrations you’ve expressed and are working on improving opportunities for current and future BlueVine employees. ~The BlueVine People Team

Typical Startup Environment

Pros

Bluevine is a pretty good place to work, especially if you're looking for that startup everyone-is-young-and-hanging-out-together environment. Lots of bright and fun people who believe in the mission of the company. Free lunches once a week.

Cons

Tons of growing pains throughout the company, but as with any job your experience will vary depending what department you're in. Over-working was ignored in order to keep hiring costs low and people were not encouraged to have a good work-life balance. Definitely spends less on employee perks than other startups in the area. The gym/health benefit was reduced from $150 to $100 in the short time I was there. No 401K matching. The CEO is very nice but most other upper management was somehow both overbearing and secretive at the same time.
