Pros

- Amazing culture: friendly, open-minded, learner mindset (experiments/errors are accepted and part of the process), respectful, helpful, they walk the talk, it's not just words, you see the behaviours matching as well, - Great managers: supportive and not micro-managing, they recognise teams and individuals, protect them when needed, model healthy behaviours encouraging work-life balanced/ integration, are flexible and relaxed (not transmitting stress to the teams) and act fast when support/a change is needed. - Relaxed onboarding for 3 months, step by step, funnel approach, feeling very welcomed and integrated into the teams from day 1. - Start-up mindset in a big corporation, we start and adjust instead of waiting for things to be perfectly clear / mapped to start.

Cons

- Don't expect that everything will be crystal clear when joining (how we are organized, who works on what, etc), it takes time! The good news is you can start working without figuring everything out first. - Don't expect that everything is perfectly organised (documentation, ways of working, etc), which gives a certain freedom in how to do things (instead of following a rigid protocole) and there are plenty of opportunities to improve certain processes.

Pros

Biggest asset of the company is the people you work with. They are smart, outcome driven yet empathic. I've only met handful people here with whom I'm less than thrilled to work with (and that in 5 years time). This positive work environment is supported & maintained by the company culture: Succeeding together is just important as the right results in the right way. These aren't just empty words written somewhere on a wall, these (and other) values are lived throughout the company. The mission is engaging ("Make it easier for everyone to experience the world") and the resulting business problems are interesting to solve, it's something I can identify with easily. It's a place where I learned a lot and continue to learn a lot. The pay is competitive and so are the benefits (25% employee discount 🎉)

Cons

As in every company there are challenges we face. The technical infrastructure isn't as good as it could be. We're often slowed down by legacy issues that are only slowly resolved (the company is on the way and will be for more years to come to solve this). The data community isn't quite as close as it used to be 4-5 years ago. The reorganisation that introduced business units, which was necessary from an organisational standpoint, was a big strain on the community. Add the Corona pandemic and we have a much weaker community. It's slowly finding its way back and I hope that all being under one roof in the new Amsterdam campus will facilitate that. Every now and then Booking.com goes through a growth spurt and hires a lot of people for specific roles/expertise (recently payments/finance). In these business areas the culture isn't as strong as in well established business areas.
