Pros

When people hear you work for Booz Allen in the DC area, they automatically know you work for a prestigious consulting firm. Their benefits are nice, especially the fact that BAH contributes 10 percent of your salary to a retirement account without the need to match their contribution. The young environment makes it easy for young people to meet others like them with similar interests if they are able to visit BAH facilities frequently. Those stuck 100 percent on client site might not have this same experience.

Cons

Client service is a big part of the BAH culture and sometimes late nights are warranted and other times they are not. Managers, in my opinion, need to do a better job of managing client expectations when it comes to unreasonable requests late in the night. Compensation seems to be lower than average among the other consulting companies in the DC area. Negotiating salary when coming into BAH seems to be a good method of getting paid more fairly but generally friends at other consulting firms with the same or less experience than me seem to be getting paid a lot more.

Pros

Flexible work schedule is advantageous to people who commute long distances. The health benefits are so-so, and may get worse since the company was recently bought by the Carlyle group. It's a good place to start your career if you are a new graduate. The environment is highly political in nature. Best to buy a couple of conservative suits before you interview with this company.

Cons

Long hours expected (42++/week). Highly political in nature. The GQ dress look gives the impression that the company does good stuff. Wearing a necktie is mostly mandatory. Shoddy educational benefits, and meager health benefits. Most managers at least attempt to listen to employee concerns, but rarely act on them in an efficient manner.
